3.      HAMBURG – TIN BEATLES

Finally Beatles Square has become reality!
On 11 September 2008, Hamburg's Bürgermeister (Lord Mayor),
Ole von Beust, has opened it to the public in a ceremony attended
by a large number of fans.
It is predominantly down to those fans that Stephan Heller's
(Radio Oldie 95) idea could take shape with a lot of support from
I.G.Beat City. Certificates bought by those fans were the foundations
of the capital needed, part of which was then generously added upon by
major sponsors, political institutions and the City of Hamburg.

The controversial sculptures of the Beatles, sometimes even derided
as "Tin Beatles", are increasingly turning out to be visual hits.
International tourists are now queueing at the corner of Grosse
Freiheit and Reeperbahn in order to have their photos taken with
those sculptures. A true success story!

The next step leading to a future Hamburg Beatles–World will now be
the Beatles Museum currently under construction only a few paces away
from Beatles Square.

4.      LIVERPOOL – AUF DEN SPUREN DER BEATLES
 (IN THE BEATLES' FOOTSTEPS)

Many fans are now going to enjoy this German language travel guide
written by Beate Baum. The author, Liverpool expert and music journalist,
leads her readers to numerous Beatles sites, among them many off the
beaten track, first of all the clubs and pubs in which the later Fab Four
would hang out, and where you now can enjoy your beer in an unadulterated
atmosphere.
But this book is not only aimed at Beatles fans: the author shares her
knowledge of where you may find excellent accommodation, fine food,
and which are the most important museums or points of interest, and –
for a perfect "night out" - where to find which style of music.

The handy little pocket-sized book featuring loads of useful advice and
interviews with the "natives" as well as city maps retails at € 8.90
and is available from K&K.

5.      BERLIN – FAMOUS UNKNOWN

"The good thing about Klaus is, he was actually there."
(Sir Paul McCartney)

"....You have played with and for so many great artists, as well as
worked as their producer, that you are rightly labeled as Germany's
contribution to international rock music. You are known and respected
througout the music scene here as well as across the Atlantic – and,
in addition to that, many millions of listeners all over the world
have admired that beautiful cover of "Revolver" by the Beatles which
you have created. There is hardly another graphic work by a recent
German artist which has become so widely distributed and known. ..."
(The German Bundespräsident Horst Köhler on the occasion of Klaus
Voormann's 70th birthday on 28 April 2008)

As the Academy award ("Oscar") in the motion picture industry, music
has its "Grammy". In 1967 this award has gone to a German artist for the
very first time, i.e. Berlin illustrator and musician Klaus Voormann.
He has received it for the cover artwork of one of pop music's most
spectacular albums, "Revolver" by the Beatles.
In 1973, he has received his second Grammy for his musical contribution
to George Harrisons "Concert for Bangla Desh".
He has been called "the fifth Beatle", or "the world's most famous unknown".

Klaus Voormann is the proverbial "sideman", the man in the background
who has worked with international music legends while also having
created pop music history's most highly acclaimed cover artwork.
On 29 April 2008 he has turned 70. Two hearts have always been
beating in Voormann's breast. One of Klaus, the musician, and another
of  Voormann, the graphic designer. He is an artist who has always enjoyed
his role in the background.

On the occasion of his anniversary, all that is now going to change:
In spring of 2008, he has embarked on a special journey.
VOORMANN'S JOURNEY is about traveling into the past. It is motivated by
his urge to once again meet friends and colleagues which have a special
meaning for him and who can claim a prominent place in his heart.
Among them are Carly Simon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Dr. John,
Van Dyke Parks, Albert Lee, and many, many more. He has played with
them, swapped stories and together they have relived the past.
This was not always easy for Voomann as he will never again meet many
of his "brothers-in-arms" such as Harry Nilsson, George Harrison
and John Lennon.
Their songs have remained. Songs that he has been involved with and
which have made music history. He has faithfully recorded these
encounters with pen and paper illustrationg them in his very own style.

Voormann’s journey has been documented in a 90-minute movie project
and a self-produced anniversary-box special edition containing an
audio CD, DVD and a book.
The movie documentation is a cooperation project of Kickfilm Munich,
ARTE and Bayerisches Fernsehen TV. The music project is going to be
released through Universal Music, and it is already considered a cult
and collector item even prior to its actual release which has been
scheduled for spring 2009.

Headlined "Hommage to Klaus Voormann - REMEMBER REVOLVER"
"Automobil Forum Unter den Linden" in Berlin presents illustrations,
etchings and photos as examples spanning his 50 years of creative work
as a graphic designer.
Besides his two original Grammies the focal piece of this exhibition
is a VW Beetle, provided by Volkswagen and painted by Klaus Voormann.
Klaus Voormann has donated this work of art to benefit an environmental
protection project that he is involved in in the South of Germany.

Furthermore, a "Fine Art Print" – Special edition (screen print)
of project drafts of the "Revolving New Beetle" by Klaus Voormann
has been especially compiled for this exhibition in Berlin.
The exhibition displays a total of some  80 items.
